Facts about Rebound Headache

A rebound headache is considered to be one of the worst types of headaches one can experience since it is a rebound of another headache, that is, increased and intensified pressure and pain. Many people don’t realize that their rebound headache is nothing but a headache caused by intense search of a little relief from the constant pounding on your head.

You try to get rid of your headache as soon as possible and end up stuffing yourself with painkillers and other medications, and before you know it you are suffering from a rebound headache due to the fact that you are overusing medications. Therefore, it is important to follow the instructions on the labels of medications, as overdose or too many different medications at one time will definitely not help you, but aggravate your headache.

A Rebound Headache Can Be Prevented

In order to help yourself from getting a rebound headache in the first place, you may take a migraine-preventive medication, but more beneficial for you would be certain changes in your lifestyle, including quitting any unhealthy habits, eating a healthier diet, and increasing the amount of physical activity that you do.

However, the first thing that you need to do is to break the vicious cycle of rebounding that is taking place in your life. There are certain signs, which can let you know whether you are actually experiencing rebound headaches or it is something different.

The most common signs are as follows: you suffer from headaches daily or every other day; your pain intensifies about three hours after your last dose of medication; your pain medications don’t work as well as they used to and it is noticeable; you take medications, but your headaches are in fact getting worse; you rely more on pills, more often; you take medication for mild headaches, and you often try to avoid a headache by using medication.

Many people wrongly assume that once they are in pain, the only way to deal with it is to take painkillers. Another wrong and very harmful thing they do is taking the medications as much as they want. In fact, taking too much medication can actually make your headache worse and lead to severe rebound headaches.
